Student Techs
Student Techs (STs) help other Yale College undergraduates and GSAS students with technology issues. Assistance is available via phone, chat, and at our walk-in centers.
STs troubleshoot any issues, provide advice, and repair personal computers. STC services are free; however, students may be asked to purchase parts and software if necessary to complete a repair. For students whose computers are taken in for repair, the Student Technology program maintains a stock of loaner laptops separate from what the Bass Circulation Desk has available. STC loaner laptops are subject to availability constraints, and failure to comply with listed terms of service may result in fines.
Certain problems are outside of the STs’ purview. Professional school students are encouraged to reach out to their school’s dedicated IT support team prior to seeking help from STC. Yale-owned computers should be referred to their department’s respective Distributed Support Provider (DSP). Any device accessing HIPAA, FERPA, or otherwise protected data should be handled by a specialized support center rather than STC.
The student technician branch is also responsible for administering the YCDO Loaner Program and OnTheHub.
