Information for December 2023 Graduates

This information is accurate for Yale College and Yale Graduate School students graduating in December 2023. After you graduate, your access to Yale accounts and information will change. Take the following steps to prepare for these changes and preserve your data.

Class of December 2023 email accounts will be deactivated in December 2024. Please review the following steps to prepare for your email deactivation then. We recommend you take these steps as soon as possible, if you have not done so already. Students who graduated in May 2023 or May 2024 can click on the link associated with their graduation date for more information.

Note: Graduating students from the School of Management, School of Law, School of Forestry, and PA School should look for communications specific to their department; some information for these students will differ from the information listed below.

Set up Your Alumni Email Account

The Yale Alumni Association provides every alumni a free GSuite email account through the YaleMail service. These accounts offer alumni a life-long @aya.yale.edu email address with the same functionality of a student EliApps account. You can use your YaleMail @aya.yale.edu account however you like: link to other Gmail accounts, auto-forward to another email address, or use it as a standalone account. December 2023 graduates received an email from the Yale Alumni Association with information on how to set up a YaleMail account. You can find more information on setting up your YaleMail account on the YaleMail Help page.

Migrate Your Email, Calendar, and Drive Files to Another Account

Your Yale email account will be deactivated in December 2024, but you should begin preserving your account data long before then. Once deactivated, you will no longer have access to the email, files, and calendars stored in your account.

Once you have followed the instructions below, we strongly recommend that you open your email, Drive files, and other important information in their new location to confirm the process has been successful. Please note that for large accounts, the download and migration process can take up to one week to complete.

Transfer Ownership of Club Files, Calendars, and Email Lists

Before graduating, take stock of any files and accounts you own on behalf of Yale clubs and organizations. Transfer ownership of these accounts to a continuing Yale student before your own accounts are deactivated. Please note that transferring ownership is different from simply sharing a document.

Turn on Auto-Reply and Auto-Forwarding

Your Yale email account will be deactivated in December 2024. However, you should turn on auto-reply and auto-forwarding in May 2024 to ease the transition away from your Yale email address. Please note that both auto-replies and auto-forwarding will stop working when your account is deactivated in December 2024.

Auto-Reply

Auto-Reply automatically sends a message to anyone who sends you an email. This feature can be used to inform people of your new email address. You can also customize this feature to avoid auto-replying to marketing and spam emails. Follow the instructions below to set it up for your account.

Email Forwarding

Email Forwarding automatically redirects all messages sent to your Yale account to another account. This can be used to make sure you don’t miss mail sent to your Yale account for the next year. Follow the instructions below to set it up for your account.

Graduates Remaining At Yale

If you are still actively affiliated with Yale as a student, faculty, or staff member, or if you are planning to start a new active Yale affiliation in Fall 2024, the behavior of your email account will depend on your new affiliation. Please review the below table for details about the behavior of your account. Contact the ITS Help Desk if you have any questions about your transition.
